Lash care and upkeep can sometimes take the backseat to other beauty maintenance routines, but it shouldn't!
It's totally normal to spend a lot of time, effort, and money on caring for your hair, such as regular washes and conditions, hair cuts, hair masks, bleach, dying, and more. Even eyebrows get a lot of time and attention these days with tinting, waxing, laminating, and more. But what about your eyelashes?
If the rest of the hair on your head is getting attention, shouldn't we do the same for our lashes?
Despite the longing most women feel for long, voluminous lashes, a lot of times, eyelash care and maintenance are overshadowed by other beauty routines.
Unless you've dedicated countless hours and dollars to lash extensions, it's more than likely that your other beauty routines take priority over your lashes. But we're here to tell you you shouldn't be skipping lash care.
Today, we're diving into not only why you shouldn't skip lash care but also how to care for eyelashes so they thrive.

3 Reasons Why You Should Never Skip Your Lash Care Routine
Many people believe that eyelashes do not require much upkeep. However, a little TLC can go a long way in terms of lashes. Here's why you should never skip your lash care routine:
Dry, Brittle Lashes — If you're a chronic wearer of false lashes, lash extensions, and even mascara, you've probably experienced dry, brittle lashes a time or two. Lashes that do not receive regular care and nutrients and are constantly covered in heavy falsies and sticky glue are more likely to be dry and susceptible to breakage.
Short, Sparse Lashes — Skipping regular lash care routines can result in short, sparse lashes. Without the opportunity to receive the necessary nutrients, lashes cannot grow to their fullest potential. You'll be left with short, sparse, lackluster lashes.
Irritation, Inflammation, and Infections — Lash care is more than just lash serums, though; this is an important step! Lash care also includes cleaning and washing your eyelashes, and failing to do so regularly can result in the three Is (not to be confused with three eyes!): irritation, inflammation, and infections. Basic daily practices like cleansing and brushing can help you avoid becoming a three-I-ed monster (get it??).
How to Care for Eyelashes
As mentioned above, even a little care and maintenance for your lashes can go a long way. But do you know how to care for eyelashes? Here are some ways you can care for them:
Nutrition — Just like the hair that grows from the top of your head, it all starts from the inside. What you eat plays a huge role in your health, including the health of your lashes. Talk to your doctor about including the necessary vitamins and minerals to your diet, such as vitamin B3, C, and E, biotin, folate, and more to your diet to help promote hair growth.
Clean Your Lashes — Included in your face washing routine, make sure to cleanse your eyes and lashes. Properly remove makeup from the lids and lashes using oil or balm cleansers or gentle makeup removers. Then use a water-based cleanser to complete your washing routine.
Use a Moisturizer — Just like you add lotion to your skin or a conditioner to your hair, moisturizing and hydrating the lashes is important. Good quality oils make for amazing moisturizers when it comes to your lashes since many contain beneficial nutrients. Some fantastic options include ingredients like argan oil, avocado oil, almond oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, and more.
Let Lashes Breathe — Constantly wearing makeup can lead to severe irritation in the eyes and lashes. Let your lashes breathe by taking makeup breaks regularly. It's okay to go eyeshadow and mascara free! You're beautiful and can totally rock that natural look.
Check the Ingredient List — Like all other beauty, makeup, and skincare products, it's always a good idea to check out the ingredient list on your eye products before applying them. The eyes are highly sensitive, so staying away from potentially harmful or irritating ingredients like phthalates, fragrances, and parabens that could clog a lash duct is wise.
Use Makeup Sparingly — We know that going without makeup on a regular basis isn't realistic for many people. So, when your only option is to wear makeup, it's best to apply eye makeup in tiny amounts. It's easy to overuse eye makeup, but multiple coats of mascara and eyeliner applied to the lash and water lines, and shadows smudged to the top and bottom lids can clog lash ducts and cause irritation and lash loss.
Clean and Sanitize Eye Makeup Brushes and Tools — If you use eyeshadow or eyeliner brushes or an eyelash curler, make sure to clean and sanitize them often. If you don't, you're likely to put a lot of bacteria right into your eyes and lashes.
Use Lash Serums — If you're unhappy with the length or fullness (or lack thereof) of your lashes, try incorporating a lash serum into your eyelash care regimen. A high-quality serum can help promote eyelash growth since they are typically packed full of amazing vitamins and other ingredients. It's important to remember that if you want to see results, you have to be dedicated to using the product consistently and following instructions closely.
